A.L. Patterson Award

The A.L. Patterson Award honors outstanding research that deepens our understanding of the structure of matter through diffraction methods. Reflecting the spirit of innovation associated with Arthur Lindo Patterson, the award recognizes significant advances in structure determination, methodological breakthroughs, and imaginative applications of diffraction to illuminate biological, chemical, geological, or physical phenomena. Established in 1980, it celebrates scientific contributions that expand the power and reach of structural analysis across the natural sciences.
